Today was my first day of classes. I love my Network Essentials class. I have a woman teacher who is funny & really easy to follow. My XHTML class on the other had..... Well lets just say its a good thing I am good at self teaching. He basically said that he was there only to grade us & not to be bothered with teaching us. He was hard to follow & jumped around in the material he was showing us & went so fast half the time I felt I was playing ketch up just to follow what he was trying to show us. (Frustrated sigh.) I understood most, if not all of what he went over, so I think I will do fine in the class. Fingers crossed. I could drop the class, but its required & its something I so could use. (Grumbles!) I will just have to tough through it. I did find out that one of the guys that had my first class is in my other classes. I hope we will become friends he seemed like a nice guy. Maybe we can lean on each other for the HTML class? Who knows.
I started out the day by walking into my first class & I almost stopped in my tracks. I was the only girl in the room & it was 10mins before class. Please let there be another girl, please, please, please! I instantly said to myself " Lets do the math: only girl + red head + room full of nerds (said in love) = no chance of ever hiding." (EEeeepppp!) I did the next best thing I held my head high, smiled, walked to the back corner & tried to keep my head down. I will not attract attention. I will not attract attention. I will not attract attention. Ya that lasted all about 5mins till the teacher looked at me & pointed me out to the class. I turned beet red & posted: My hands are shaking, I am the only girl in my class. Lol! Typical for this field but still it would have been nice for one other girl to be here
Chica; that just goes to show how ROCK STAR you are. Taken on a field where being a girl make you the minority, so no need for shaking just chin up and show'em all the brain power girls have :)
LOL! Thats what I did. There is no hiding when your the only girl(& + being a red head, can we say blinking neon sign anyone?) in a room full of nerds. I say nerd with love, but man there was a few of "when was the last time you have seen sunlight man?" in the class. You know the ones that think that soap if an option not a rule. (shiver!) They were nice though.
Things got a little LOL! When the teacher had us sign our name on a sticky note with a greeting. I put my name & Ohayou (おはよう) & yes I wrote it in English & the calligraphy. She then drew out a diagram of how a network works within a large company. She wanted us to put our notes on the board where we would like to work. She had us go up in rows that we were sitting in. I was the last one up. I wanted to work from home, but all the houses were taken, so I smiled & said "I like to think out side the box." I then put my note up by the houses. I turned & said "I am an out side consultant." The teacher lit up & said "Oh! She is like ninja. You never know where she is but you better make sure she is connected." LOL! I could not stop smiling. I loved it! The guys LOL! & one chimed in "she is probably in Japan because of her greeting." & I just head my head high, smiled & nodded my head as I waked back to my desk. She would not let me hide after that. (Like I could have before that.) Its was great. I am really looking forward to the future.
